Privacy
The short version: I ask for one thing, your email address, and only if you want what I send. I don't sell it, I don't share it, and you can have it deleted by asking.
What I collect
Nothing at all unless you subscribe.
If you do give me your email address, I store:
- Your email address, because you typed it in.
- Which page you subscribed from, so I know which writing is actually useful.
- The dates you subscribed and confirmed.
- A country code worked out from your connection. The country only, never your city, your street, or anything finer.
- Two random tokens, one to confirm your subscription and one to unsubscribe you. They exist so those links work without a password.
That's the entire list. No name, no age, no phone number.
I don't ask for or store anything about your health. Not your symptoms, your medications, your weight, your labs, or your history. If a page here has a quiz or a calculator, it runs entirely inside your browser and your answers are never sent anywhere. I don't see them, I can't see them, and there's nothing for me to store or lose. Please don't put health details into the contact or signup forms either. If someone sends that kind of thing unexpectedly, I remove it when I find it.
What I do with it
I send you what you signed up for, and occasionally new writing when I have something genuinely useful. That's the whole purpose of the list. I don't sell it, rent it, trade it, or hand it to anybody, and I don't run advertising against it.
Typing your address isn't enough on its own. I send one email asking you to confirm, and if you don't click it, your address sits there inactive and never receives anything else. Someone else typing your address in cannot sign you up.
Who else touches it
Three companies, all doing ordinary plumbing:
- Cloudflare hosts this site and stores what the forms collect.
- Amazon Web Services delivers the email, through its SES service.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces these pages use, which means Google sees the address your browser connects from, the same as on most sites on the internet.
None of them get your information for their own purposes.
Cookies and tracking
There are none. No analytics, no advertising pixels, no tracking of any kind, and no cookies for ordinary visitors. Nothing follows you from page to page, and nothing follows you off this site. You can read every word here and leave no record behind.
What you can ask me to do
You can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Write to [email protected] and I'll do it. You don't have to give a reason, you don't have to explain, and nothing bad happens to you for asking.
To get off the list specifically, click unsubscribe in any email I've sent you, or just reply and say the word. If you'd rather I delete the record entirely instead of only stopping the emails, say that and I'll do that instead.
I don't sell your personal information, and I don't share it for advertising. I never have. If you're in California, Colorado, or one of the other states with a privacy law that gives you the right to opt out of that, there's nothing here for you to opt out of, because I don't do it in the first place. Your other rights under those laws, to know, to correct, and to delete, are the ones above, and they're open to everybody who writes to me regardless of where they live.
Children
This site is written for adults. It isn't intended for anyone under 16, and I don't knowingly keep information belonging to a child. If you think I have, write to me and I'll delete it.
If this changes
If I start collecting something new, this page gets updated before I do it, and the date below changes. I'd rather over-explain than surprise you.
Getting hold of me
Write to [email protected]. It reaches me directly, and I read it.
